Phraya Nakhon Cave is located in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, about 40 km from the Thai town of Hua Hun. It is a beautiful natural phenomenon. The cave consists of two colossal rooms, each topped by a heavenly opening overlooking the top of the mountain, allowing the growth of a miniature tropical forest in both of them.

The best times to visit Praia Nakhon Cave are between 11 am and 1 pm, when the sun’s rays fall vertically through the celestial openings. It is recommended to stay overnight in Hua Hin, as this allows you to visit the cave in the morning before the heat intensifies, and to visit the rooms during this period.

The cave was discovered about two centuries ago, and a royal throne was built in the middle of it, where the kings of Thailand have been visiting over the centuries because of its beauty. It is one of the world’s famous natural sites, and has long attracted tourists, backpackers and photographers.

The national park is about 40 km from the town of Hua Hin, where some tour companies offer excursions to the cave. Hua Hin is one of the most beautiful coastal destinations in Thailand, and we have dedicated a comprehensive article to it in the blog.

In general, a visit to the cave requires at least 3-4 hours, and this includes about half an hour to an hour (depending on fitness) round trip of the relatively difficult mountain hike. The cave is about 2 km away from the entrance to the national park, where many people accept to walk, but it requires medium to high fitness, as the road is somewhat bumpy.

It can also be reached by boat, and the trip does not take more than ten minutes, but the boat drops the passengers on the shore, where access to the cave requires another walk of about 500 meters on a relatively rugged mountain road.

In the event that the visitor is not able to stay in Hua Hin, I advise to stop there for at least a few hours, as it is a very beautiful coastal town, and is characterized by its relatively mild weather, and its calm compared to the major cities of Thailand, and the multiplicity of recreational and tourist activities in the surrounding area. Click here to view the most prominent destinations and attractions in Hua Hin.
